Pukkelpop 2010 Review

Pukkelpop 2010, the 25th anniversary, although the event itself is older than most of girls there, I mean visitors... a lot of respect was paid to the old legends. Legends like Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone age, Limp Bizkit, The Prodigy. They still Rocked and Rolled, or take you to the hospital for the latter one. The prodigy was, as always, mayhem, but on field, at night, on an event with more than 60.000 people, moshpits the size of football fields were created. Steve Aoki, definatly can be called a legend as well as a rocker, made the Boiler Room boil until you could drink straight from the air itself.

Artists like Uffie and Die Antwoord have there own category of music and both gave away great show. Die Antwoord was as shocking as they are on TV. By that I mean, the Pink Floyd-boxer-move was performed as never before.

After bouncing Jakwob, Caspa and Pendulum for so long we almost forgot how to dance on electro & techno again.

Of course we where in front of all the tens of thousands of people that came to see our hero's, The Bloody Beetroots. As they wrote on their blog.

"No celebrations, no walls, no rules . . . Just Music."

Boys Noize was the gatekeeper of the whole Boyz Noize day at the Boiler Room (which was crazy), he played a terrific set, stretching his tracks in to one big electric flow.

And in between all this dancing, rocking, wobbling, bouncing and jumping, we found some time to listen to a personal favorite of ours, from a different side of the music spectrum. Mumford and Sons, was as beautiful as it was emotional. The Sons where so surprised by the sheer amount of fans that welcomed them on stage they filled there eyes with joy and our ears with the authentic folk music they produce.

All and all, Pukkelpop the 25th anniversary made us dance like idiots and smell like pigs. . . Awesome!

review: The Bloody Beetroots Live

Saturdaynight, five days off was unofficially Bloody Beetroots night at @ Paradiso. As people were entering the big room good beats (that usually make you rock out) were already filling the air, but nobody was really dancing! They just gazed at the stage for an hour, till finally. . . our masked heros came on stage and this time they were live! Sir Bob Rifo played the guitar, the piano and the mic., Tommy Tea the the synths and they brought their new drummer, Edward Grinch, who definitely made a good premiere. They are already fenomenal on the turntables, but live it was, as Sir Bob Rifo would say (and indeed said on twitter): CHAOS! They linked their rawest and their most beautiful, their punk roots and their massive electro together as only these musical geniuses can do. Death Crew 77 only means more ANARCHY!

Oi!

Like Alacritous N said, the 6th of March is going to be a sick night, but today I found out it's going to be even better! It has been confirmed that  our Dutch heroes the Mightyfools and Belgian Gtronic are supporting the Bloody Beetroots and Boemklatsch. For the Mightyfools 2009 was a big year, with EP releases en two big tours, could 2010 be better? 2010 will be a better year for Gtronic i recon, although 2009 wasn't that bad with a heavy Warp remix.

So even more reasons to buy your tickets here.

THE BLOODY BEETROOTS COME TO THE NETHERLANDS !: the sixth of March.



From the 3rd till the 7th of March 5 Days Off is held for the 10th time. This fantastic event brought instant legends like Justice to Holland. This year they bring names like Boemklatsch, Groove Armada, Paul Kalkbrenner and Vitalic.

On the sixth of March chaos will come to the Paradiso, Amsterdam, with performances by the Bloody Beetroots and Boemklatsch

Review: NYE Knalwerk

BigSNoise was @ Knalwerk on NYE. Knalwerk, in Dutch, literally means 'bangworks', and yes, the works were truly banging! The entire night was filled with good danceable music. But for us, loving the raw sounds of electro, there were a few highlights.

The MAX Area

With his 13 minute intro SebastiAn raised the expectations to a level only a certain few can meet. He played tracks from everything that's French & good, like Le Petits Pilous, Mr Oizo, Daft Punk, Justice. But also from zie Germans, like Boys Noize, from English blokes like The Prodigy, and the beautiful remix of Gossip's Heavy Cross (from the USA). So what he's predesessor LeLe was singing about 'International Pants' and 'Disco Monster', SebastiAn personified. And score: He certainly met our expectations and brought us a smashing start of 2010.

VAgE gASTEN Area

After enjoying a bit of DJ Feadz' clash of Hip-Hop and Electro we went to the VAgE gASTEN Area. Here, also DJ's were letting Hip-Hop, Electro and Dubstep collide smashingly. But then... in the last half an hour the Vage Gasten Dj's really played to our tune. Warp 1977 came by, one of my personal favorites Justice's Phantom II (Boys Noize Remix) and even our home-promoted Huoratron with his chaos song Corporate Occult, that really made us gasp for breath!

Party: NYE Knalwerk

Like everyone knows, the best (actually the worst) parties are thrown on New Year's Eve. The best DJ's are scattered around the world and most of them are in Australia. So most parties on NYE are either very, what many people would call, main-stream OR they are stupidly insane, in the bad way (like 90's parties).

Review: Greatest Rock&Rave circus

As I '!ACHTUNG!-ed' you all in my post at the 4th of November, The Greatest Rock&Rave circus came to Haarlem last night. As we somehow suspected it would be bonkers, Big D and me went and reviewed it for those unfortunate souls that couldn't make it.

GREATEST ROCK&RAVE CIRCUS

!ACHTUNG! Saturday 07 November (AKA THIS WEEKEND!) Circus is in town. At least In Haarlem. This Bawesome event is hosted by the inventor of RAUW: JOOST VAN BELLEN. On his 25 years (in the dj-trade, certainly not his age) celebration tour, the disco dinosaur is accompanied by his right-hand-lady, misses WANNABE A STAR and presents you with some great acts. A little review from the previous Electric Trash on October 31st. We went there and reviewed it for you lot! Black Noize (UK), Soldout (BE), DJ Spliph & liquid Lab brought it nasty! It was nice and raw, mayb a little to raw and unfamiliar for most people because it wasn’t very crowded. Most music was fit to bounce and ‘fidge’ on, but not always danceable for everyone. Although they played in the ‘little room’ of the Haarlem club Patronaat, they made the ground (and beer) shake!
